Zama Dance Ballet Class

The Zama Dance School performing team was delighted to be invited to perform at the Theatre Dance Association's fundraiser for Cape Town City Ballet at the Artscape Opera House on 6 June 2010.

Entitled Dancers for Dancers, this is an annual event that raised R80 000 for the ballet company in 2009. This year, the TDA hopes to raise R100 000.

The Zama dancers were part of about 500 children from over 30 Western Cape dance schools that participated in the show - "because a city without a ballet company is unthinkable!"

"The gala event was very successful," says Zama artistic director Arlene Westergaard. "We all played to a full house. It was so well organised and with so many participants... the TDA really need to take a bow."

Zama performed new choreography by Zama graduate Mantu Jakavula and incorporates a short male solo in the group work. The piece, entitled Uhambo Lwam (My Journey), was performed by 15 boys and girls representing the 2010 Zama Performing Team Dancers.
